Horse's level topped out at 53

All of my horses' have topped out at 53. I stopped getting points towards leveling them and this happens when I win 1st place. It shows my horse earning points towards her level but they never get added. They just stopped leveling up. Is that as far as they can go? That can't be right cuz there are things I haven't won for some horses.
